A few shots from our morning at the Vatican...
My favorite, the animal room.
One of the better examples of classical Greek statue surviving today. The arm was originally missing and Rafael was commissioned to replace it. He noted that judging my the chest muscles, the arm was probably not stretch upwards but he was over-ruled. Hundreds of years later, the original arm was found and placed on the statue. Rafael was right all along.
We opted for a guided tour so that we could skip the lines. Great choice as the line was about 1/4 mile long and looked pretty miserable.
This long gallery leads to the Sistine Chapel from the Art Galleries and really was spectacular...but a tad crowded.
After the animal room, the map gallery was my next fave. Really awesome hand painted maps of Italy.
The Swiss Guards. Rafeal designed their uniforms.
The Basilica.
A great tour. Our necks hurt from looking up. We're sick of tourists.
Ready for the islands!

Reading your blog from an iPad in Astoria Queens. This is a beautiful gadget, but it is no Vatican City.
